DPF

DIESEL PARTICULAR FILTER (DPF)

Every modern diesel car or van is equipped with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF), which serves to filter and remove toxic particles from the exhaust. Since these filters have a limited capacity, the trapped soot must be periodically emptied or “burned off” to regenerate the DPF. However, over time, the DPF can become excessively clogged, reaching a point where it can no longer be cleaned. This puts strain on the engine, triggering the ENGINE MANAGEMENT LIGHT to alert you that the DPF is no longer functioning properly.

Symptoms of a blocked DPF can include:

Harder or failure to start

Loss of power

Reduced throttle response

Limp Mode

Higher fuel consumption

Causes of a blocked DPF may include:

Faulty or Failed Sensors

Faulty or Failed Swirl Flaps

Short Journeys

Faulty or Failed EGR Valve

To fix a blocked DPF, solutions can include:

Provide the car with more power and better acceleration

improve throttle response

Increase Fuel Economy

Resolving the DPF error in the car

Reduce the exhaust gas temperature

Extending the service life of the DPF

It’s important to note that the removal of the DPF filter is illegal and will render the vehicle for “off-road use only.” We do not remove the filter itself, only the software for vehicles intended for ‘Off-Road Usage Only,’ such as track days, motorsports, and off-roading.

According to the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations (Regulations 61(7) and 61A(3)) and the Road Traffic Act 1988 (Section 42), it is illegal to use a vehicle on the road if it has been modified in a way that causes it to no longer comply with its designed air pollutant emissions standards.

The potential penalties for non-compliance are £1,000 for a car and £2,500 for a van, lorry, or bus.
